Instructions for Installing MAE Laser Mounts

Installation of your MAE Laser Mounts is simple and straightforward.  If you follow these steps, you will be rewarded with a sturdy and safe mounting of your outrunner:

1.  Carefully remove parts from the plywood sheet by “rotating” them to break the cut tabs.

2.  Place each mount on your motor’s bearing tube.  Move the first piece all the way to the front as far as it will go.  The second piece should be as far back as it will go.  For Nippy motors, the front mount has a larger (10.5mm) hole than the rear mount (10.0mm).

3.  It helps to have the mounts slid temporarily in place on your motor stick for this step.  Rotate the bearing tube to ensure that your motor wires exit in the desired location relative to the mounts.  Also ensure that both mounts are aligned with each other.  If desired, you can twist in a slight amount of down and/or right thrust.

4.  When satisfied with motor alignment, wick thin CA around the bearing tube where it contacts the mounts.  This will prevent the bearing tube from turning in the mounts due to motor torque.  The mounts can be removed in the future by applying “debonder” or acetone to the CA joints.

5.  Install the motor assembly onto the motor stick in your plane.  Make sure the front mount is all the way onto the motor stick… some stick should be protruding in front of the mount.

6.  When again satisfied with motor alignment, cut and fit a small scrap of 1/32" or 1/16" ply to fit flush to the motor stick between the two mounts.  This "connector" piece can mount to any exposed side of your motor stick to suit access within your airplane.  Glue the scrap ply securely to the mounts, but NOT to the motor stick (fillet with medium CA as shown).  Now drill a small hole through the scrap ply into the motor stick and secure with a small screw.  The mount is now easily removable at will by simply removing the screw.
